Nuclear energy is one of the important pillars of advanced energy for human beings in the 21st century. China has a huge energy shortage, and nuclear power has become a key high-tech energy field for national development with a broad prospect. Nuclear technology, as an important modern applied technology, is profoundly influencing basic scientific fields such as physics, chemistry, and materials. The application technologies developed accordingly, such as accelerators, nuclear medical equipment, and non-destructive testing equipment, are also changing people's lifestyles, serving technological development and human life and health. Guangdong Province is a major province of nuclear power, with 1/3 of the country's nuclear power units. The economic and technological development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area is vibrant, providing a broad stage for nuclear science and technology talents with a series of national-level major scientific research platforms and related application research, such as the Spallation Neutron Source and the High-Intensity Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility.
In this context, Sun Yat-sen University has signed a cooperation agreement with FINUCI, establishing IFCEN. Since its establishment, IFCEN has opened its doors to the world with an international perspective and constantly pursued academic innovation. IFCEN adheres to the fundamental task of moral education and talent cultivation, focusing on student growth, integrating general education with professional education, deeply promoting educational reform, implementing the concept of "strengthening foundations, promoting interdisciplinary, respecting choices, and excellent teaching", cultivating students' learning ability, thinking ability, and action ability, shaping their creativity, comprehensively improving the quality of talent cultivation, and cultivating high-level talents with comprehensive development and leading the future. IFCEN is guided by the basic orientation of "facing major strategic needs of the country, facing economic and social development of the country and region, facing the frontiers of academic research, and facing the life and health of the people", and strives to promote the transformation of connotative development.
Standing at the new starting point of Sun Yat-sen University's "Double First-Class" construction, China's nuclear power industry is developing actively and orderly, with nuclear technology intersecting and innovating with many frontiers of disciplines. IFCEN will more firmly serve the needs of the country and industry, actively optimize the discipline layout, vigorously develop international cooperation and academic exchanges, implement an international talent cultivation plan, build a training base for compound nuclear science and technology talents, and cultivate high-end industry talents and innovative talents at the forefront of science and technology. IFCEN closely focuses on key scientific issues in the fields of nuclear energy, nuclear technology, and nuclear physics, as well as major strategic needs of the country, guided by the national "Thermal Reactor", "Fast Reactor", and "Fusion Reactor" three-step nuclear energy strategy, giving full play to the comprehensive cooperation advantages between China and France, utilizing the high-quality nuclear energy and nuclear technology industry resources of Guangdong Province, and striving to build a "domestically first-class, internationally renowned" excellent talent cultivation base for nuclear science and technology!
