Abstract:
Tomographic particle image velocimetry (TPIV) is an advanced flow visualization technique, which could capture all the velocity components inside a measurement volume (3D-3C). This talk would begin by introducing the basic principles of TPIV technique including the 3D calibration, the tomographic reconstruction, the volume cross-correlation, etc. Subsequently, the post-processing techniques for TPIV velocity fields are introduced. These post-processing techniques are based on an optimization model, which introduce the continuity equation as a physical constrain. Weighted divergence correction scheme (WDCS) and its robust version termed as divergence-free smoothing (DFS) would be discussed in detail. At last, this talk would turn to the application of TPIV in the measurement of vortex breakdown over a delta wing. To combine the advantages of the dye visualization and TPIV technique, the two measurements were conducted simultaneously. Results consistently revealed the transformation between the bubble-type breakdown and the spiral-type breakdown.
