Abstract:
Seeking for green energy and environment protection are the two main research fields nowadays. Aiming at these goals, CeO2 (ceria) has been used as three-way catalyst (TWC), solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), photocatalyst, and nanomedical materials, owing to its high oxygen storage capacity and ready redox properties. In addition, CeO2 nanoparticles (nanoceria) show strong morphology-dependent properties, i.e., different morphologies of nanoceria has different properties. In this presentation, synthesis and characterization of nanoceria with different morphologies will be discussed. Besides, first-principle based density functional theory (DFT) has been proved to be a powerful tool in computational materials science. In this talk, results of DFT study on relevant subjects will also be presented.
About the speaker:
Dr. Zhao Liu obtained his Ph. D. from University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, in March 2019. Then he joined IFCEN as a postdoc research fellow in May the same year. Major in materials science and engineering, he has research experience on carbon nanotube, low-temperature superconductor and functional semiconductors. His research interests include synthesis and characterization of materials as well as modelling of materials using DFT and molecular dynamics.
