Abstract:
Development of reactor core temperature and melting failure of the reactor core structures after severe accidents are the main causes of huge environmental damage and public anti-nuclear panic. This report is about the research results in the serious accident simulation code carried out in Sun Yat-sen University. This research vividly shows a series of accident phenomena after the severe loss of coolant accident happened, from the triggering of the accident, core melting, migration of in the melting material, melting through of the lower supporting plate and ablation of lower of pressure vessel. This work is the most complete and precise virtual simulation experiment in the field of numerical research in serious accident of reactor in the world so far, which is also a good simulation work for nuclear safety courses for nuclear engineering specialty.
About the speaker:
Professor ZHANG Xiaoying got her PHD from Beihang University in 2002. Now she is a professor and doctoral supervisor in Sun Yet-sun University, majoring in reactor thermal hydraulics and numerical study on reactor severe accident. She’s also the Vice Chairman of the Professional Committee on Serious Accidents, Nuclear Safety Branch in China Nuclear Society. She had made a comprehensive study on continuous melting process of key structures in reactor from heating up and melting process in IVR reactor core, to vertical movement and heat transfer analysis of core melt, heating and ablating process of lower vessel by the core melt pool, heating and melting process of supporting plate. Her research had made a milestone on numerical analysis of reactor severe accident.
