Abstract:

This presentation highlight different research works that has been carried out under the direction of the author on various aspects of Smart Grids. Even if there is no international consensus on the term Smart Grid, the following definition is used: it is a concept that is based on a system vision (for electrical grid) and not defined by embedded technologies. Indeed, it is a solution to provide safely high quality energy to everyone on a sustainable manner."A smart grid is not defined by the technologies it incorporates, but rather by what it can do." Thus, several distinct axes were pursued: structural & operational changes together with ICT interdependency evaluations. These (r)evolution, altogether, impacts significantly the distribution networks to achieve the energy challenges of the XXIst century and environmental objectives proposed by the political authorities. Changes will be essential to increase the rate of renewable. generations and to pursue a sustainable and civic approach.

About the speaker:

Raphaël CAIRE is associate professor at Grenoble Institute of Technology in the Grenoble Electrical Engineering laboratory. He has been participating in various European Project about Smart Grids as well as Future Internet for Energy Infrastructure. His research is focusing on the impacts, production control of dispersed generation on distribution system and critical infrastructures.
