Major Airports, Rail Stations, and Ferry Services

Here we provide the instructions on the most popular five airports you will probably end up using, the land connections if you are in China already for any reasons, and ways to get around in Zhuhai. Note that the fees depending on the service providers and hours.


Five major airports:

  1. Baiyun airport (CAN), Guangzhou
    1. https://www.gbiac.net/byairport-web/index?_locale=en_US, public transportations available, ~ 146 km away.
    2. Take a taxi to SYSU (~￥400 - 600). The ride takes ~ 2 hours w/o traffic
    3. Take the Airport Express Bus and continue with a taxi or bus: take the Airport Express Bus (~ ￥106) to the Guantang Bus Station (官塘公交站), get off and take a taxi (~ ￥30) to SYSU, or take a bus (No. 66/K1/10/3/3A/68) to the SYSU East Bus Station (中山大学东站) and walk to SYSU . The ride takes ~ 2.5 hours w/o traffic.
  2. Hong Kong airport (HKG), Hong Kong
    1. http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/index.html, public transportations available, ~ 3 hours away by land, or land+water via Shekou Port (蛇口码头) or the Aiport Port (机场码头) in Shenzhen.
    2. Buses: No.1 passenger building (take a No. 九巴/龙巴A41 or NA41 bus) --> the Hong Kong port Bus Station (take a Zhuhai-Hong Kong-Macao Bridge Shuttle Bus) --> the Zhuhai Port Bus Station (take a No. 3 bus) --> the Jishan Bus Station (鸡山站) or the SYSU East Bus Station (中山大学东站) --> walk to SYSU (~ ￥80).
    3. Water (only recommended to explorers): There are some ferry services to Zhuhai Jiuzhou (九洲) Port from Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal（港澳码头）or China Ferry Terminal (中港城码头) (~ ￥180), http://www.zhjzg.com/Index.aspx. From Jiuzhou, you can use a taxi or the bus system of Zhuhai to SYSU.
  3. Macau airport (MFM), Macau
    1. https://www.macau-airport.com/en, public transportations available, ~ 2.5 hours away by land.
    2. Buses: the North Shore Grand Avenue / Harmony Street Bus Station (北岸大马路/和睦街, take a No. 51A bus) --> the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park Station (纪念孙中山公园站, walk to next bus station) --> the Zhuhai City Rail Bus Station (take a No. 10 bus) --> the Jishan Bus Station (鸡山站) or the SYSU East Bus Station (中山大学东站) --> walk to SYSU.
  4. Shenzhen airport (SZX), Shenzhen
    1. https://www.szairport.com/szairporten/index.shtml, public transportations available.
    2. Take a taxi to SYSU (~ ￥350 - 550). The ride takes ~ 1.6 hours w/o traffic
    3. Buses+ Water: you can use a taxi/metro/bus system of Shenzhen--> Shekou Port or the Shenzhen Aiport Port (take a ferry) --> the Zhuhai Jiuzhou Port (walk to next station) --> the Jiuzhou Port Bus Station (take a No. 3/3A bus)--> the Jishan Bus Station (鸡山站) or the SYSU East Bus Station (中山大学东站)--> walk to SYSU. ~ 4.2 hours away and ~ ￥160.
  5. Zhuhai (Jingwan) airport (ZUH), Zhuhai (within China)
    1. https://www.zhairport.com/, public transportations available, ~ 59 km away.
    2. Take a taxi to SYSU (~ ￥200 - 280). The ride takes ~ 1.2 hours w/o traffic.
    3. Take the Airport Express Bus and continue with buses: take the Airport Express Bus (about RMB 106) to the Tangyi Hotel/No.1 Harbor Bus Staion (唐邑酒店/港湾1号公交站) --> the Zhuhai Jiuzhou Port (take a No. 66/85 bus) --> the SYSU South Gate Bus Station (中山大学南门站) --> walk to SYSU. ~ 2 hours away and ~ ￥70.


Land connections to Zhuhai (within China):

  1. Inter-City Rail Service： Tangjiawan Station (唐家湾站, recommended).
  2. Rail Service： Zhuhai Station (珠海站).


Within Zhuhai:

  1. Taxi service is very convenient in Zhuhai. An available Taxi displays a red sign of "空车(Empty)" near the front windshield. Please keep the printed invoice when you get off so that you can contact the taxi driver or the taxi company in case of any problems.
